Possible Bugs(?)

Most effective way to report bugs?

Minor - UI glitch while renaming video clip

Does not seem to have any functional impact. While renaming a video clip in a media bin, if the column is resized while the name field is still in edit mode, newly added text disappears. The cursor is still at the end typing position which suggests the new text is still present but invisible. Changing focus off the name being edited results in the edited name becoming visible and apparently saved as the new name.

Minor - Rename column layout may return unhelpful error message

While changing the columns displayed in a media bin, tried to save custom column layout with a name of "Name, Start & End Times" The error message received was:

Invalid file name 'Name, Start & End Times'

As a user, it is unclear as to why the name selected was invalid. Pop-up had no acknoledgement button (had to kill pop-up window with "X" button). Retried save of column layout using "Name Start and End times" and it worked.

Moderate - Viewer unable to play video/audio properly

When opening a bin's video clip into the viewer, the viewer is unable to play the file successfully. The first 1-2 seconds of frames play with jjitter and bounce, then the video freezes on a frame. Meanwhile, the audio is playing but muting for .5 to 1.5 seconds every 5 seconds or so. The audio continues after the video freezes on a frame. Regardless of video playing or frozen, the audio cuts out as if muted -not paused and resumed. If the playback is stopped, it is possible to advance forward/back frame by frame with arrow keys and the viewer updates the picture. Can also click on the timescale to reposition the red diamond or drag the red diamond and the picture updates. The picture is bouncing up and down from one frame to the next as if the frames are not being interlaced correctly. Details of the source video file according to ffprobe:

Random Lessons Learned

  • Create project with framerate that matches source footage
  • May want to install ffmpeg (this is related to a fresh Linux install more than LightWorks): sudo apt-get install libav-tools
  • Installed amd-driver-installer-catalyst-12.10-x86.x86_64 for better use of graphics hardware (related Linux install, not LW)

also not LW related (need to create Mint 13 post install doc)…
upgrade cinnamon
~$ cinnamon —version
was 1.4
add the following line to the file /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ maya main upstream import romeo
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cinnamon
cinnamon —version
now 1.6.4
